FRESH calls have been made for a ban on heavy goods vehicles in Silkstone and Silkstone Common after an articulated lorry got stuck on Cone Lane.
Silkstone Common was brought to a standstill on Friday, April 9, when the driver of a foreign HGV found himself in a tight spot on the narrow lane after ignoring signs saying it was not suitable for heavy goods vehicles.
It follows a campaign in February by Penistone councillors demanding tougher restrictions on HGVs using the rural village roads as shortcuts.
Coun Robert Barnard, of the Penistone East ward, saw the lorry going up Cone Lane and followed it.
Within minutes, the driver of the HGV found himself stuck at the corner of Cone Lane and Ladyroyd.
It turned out he was working for a Danish haulage company but was Lithuanian and did not speak any English, only German and a little Russian.
