A CARE home in Barnsley has stopped taking new residents amid allegations of verbal and physical abuse by staff.

Manor Court, on Churchfield Lane, Darton, agreed to the embargo with Barnsley social services after 15 complaints of abuse or neglect in a year.

Three care staff were sacked following an internal investigation and a new management team was put in place after the concerns were raised following inspections by the Care Quality Commission, the regulatory body for care homes.

Pam Finnis, regional director for owners Southern Cross Healthcare, said they had acted upon the recent report.

"The health and well being of residents is our priority. Our aim is always to provide them with the very best and most professional care."
