WHAT a colossal cucumber.

The 2ft 2in whopper was grown by Bill Owen in an allotment in Royston near the leisure centre and given to Ralph Taylor. Ralph, of Swift Street, Barnsley, said: “It was a friend that gave Bill the plant. He had bought a pack of seeds from Wilkinson’s.

“He’s given us a few and they have all been big, but not this large. The first was 18 inches, one was two foot and this is 26 inches. It was the biggest on the plant but there still some coming that might be bigger.”
