PATIENTS of a respite home and day centre that is being closed to save money are upset and angry they were not told about the plans.

Greenside House at Mapplewell will become the first casualty of public sector cuts.

The home employs 66. A 30-day consultation with staff about the closure started on September 20. But patients say they have been kept in the dark. Derek Derbyshire, 72, has visited once a week for about a year since treatment for a brain tumour.

Mr Derbyshire, of Broadway, Mapplewell, said he found out when he heard staff talking. "I was upset and have been a bit mad about it. I heard the staff and they are all upset. The council has told us nothing. I want to know why they are doing it and what for."
