ROYSTON councillor Bill Newman will not stand at the next election, the Chronicle can reveal.
Bill, 73, of Jack Close Orchard, said it was time to go after 26 years. It is thought a new candidate will be selected within the next few weeks.
Bill said he thought about retiring since the last election but it was his golden wedding anniversary, which he celebrates today, that had spurred him into action.
"Every election you think 'should I stand again?' Reaching 50 years of marriage is one of the milestones," he said.
