THURGOLAND Parish Council has written to Tesco asking for courtesy buses to and from the supermarket in Penistone.

The request comes after villagers asked members of the council to find out if it would be possible.

Tesco has responded stating it will look into the idea because sometimes it does provide courtesy buses for rural areas.

Clerk to Thurgoland Parish Council, Ruth Pearson, said at the last meeting it was suggested that rather than only Thurgoland writing, other rural parish councils should too.

She added: “We have contacted clerks at different parish councils in the area, such as Cawthorne, and suggested they might want to do the same as us which no doubt they will consider in due course. The idea is if Tesco receives eight or nine requests they might consider doing it.”
