BARNSLEY Hospital plans to cut overnight stays by 10,000 a year for the next three years, it has been revealed.
The respiratory ward will close next year and patients cared for at home under new proposals to save more than £10m.
Two surgical wards will go, the reduction in the size of the main theatre by a third by 2013 and the stroke unit will be reduced from 28 to 19 beds.
Departments including finance, supplies, IT, HR and estates are under review as well as medical staff, with redundancies expected.
Unions fear the restructuring will have a damaging effect on patients and staff. Full story in the Chronicle, Friday, November 19.
