A salon owner in Penistone said there was a lack of 'community spirit' from council workers out clearing streets of snow and ice. Claire Campbell, who runs Images Hair Salon on High Street, spent most of last Thursday clearing a path outside her shop instead of cutting hair.
She said one side of the High Street was cleared 'really well' and thought a fantastic job was done by Barnsley Council. She added: "They did a great job but on this side where we are it wasn't done.
"A council worker with a motorised blower and scraper was doing the work and I asked him to just clear us a little path but he said they were 'only doing the streets'. We were there having to use a tiny brush because there isn't a shovel to be found in Penistone.
"We pay the same rates as the shops across the road so why were we treated differently? Where is the community spirit in that? It would have only been a matter of minutes to clear a path through for customers."
