THE VICAR of Grimethorpe is concerned the new community centre will hamper the future of the church.
Father Peter Needham of St Luke’s Church says he has been left hurt and saddened by news that building work on Brierley Town Council’s new community centre will start at the end of the month.
His project, as part of the renovations at the 102 -year-old church, is to build a village hall.
It would cater for weddings, baptisms, community groups and local events in an attempt to secure the future if the church, helping to make it more viable.
It is intended the town council’s project will provide the same things plus gym facilities, steam room and sauna.
Father Peter has criticised the council for lack of communication about its project and claims it's led him blindly on in his own venture.
