It's a sight more common to South Africa than South Yorkshire but one Wombwell gardener has had a bumper crop of exotic fruit this year.

 

Margaret Batty, 71, of Lundhill Grove, has cultivated fruit trees for about ten years in her back garden but said she has never seen them fruit as much or as early as this year. Among the more traditional strawberries and plums are flourishing apricots, peaches, grapes and figs - the success of which Margaret puts down to heavy rain at the beginning of summer.
