A man fed up of kids taking drugs and having sex in a Barnsley park fired a shotgun to warn them off.

Francis McDonald, 42, who has run and lived in Elsecar Park cafe for four years, marched down to the bandstand where youths were ruining flower beds, loaded his shotgun and fired two cartridges into the air.

He was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for a year at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday after admitting possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

His legally licensed shotgun was confiscated and he was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid community work.
