A Barnsley musician and mum has recorded an album which has 'healing properties' and stops her babies crying.

Catherine Rannus, 32, of Dodworth, released Pure Chakra this week, which features 'soothing tones and harmonies'. Catherine is a qualified master of reiki, the alternative healing therapy, and said she had always planned to write some music to play during reiki and other alternative treatments.

She said: "Music for healing if often heavily synthesised, or with running water or birdsong. I wanted to create something more musical." She has studied the affects of different musical keys and tones, and has written music she believes can help balance the different centres of energy in the body, or 'chakras'.

"When I learned that specific pitches affect specific chakras and bring them to their normal vibration, I realised the music could enhance the healing and not just be 'background'. "The music alone will move energies so it can be used for general relaxation, as well as the healing properties. It's not just random 'oohs and aahs'."

Catherine, who has two young children, believes listening to the right music when pregnant can help keep a baby calm and happy and it helps to settle new-born Albert. "I was recording this all the time I was pregnant. He doesn't cry for long anyway, but if I put it on he will stop crying."

The album is on sale at the Wentworth Castle shop and a launch event will be held there on November 26 at 1pm.
