A teenager has been given a dressing down at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court for drunkenly swearing at police officers.

Nichola Louise Whitlam, 18, of Pontefract Road, Lundwood, was told by deputy district judge Peter Hollingworth that the police had better things to do than deal with abusive drunks.

Whitlam swore at officers outside Chicago Rock, Wellington Street, in the early hours, said Chantel Lowery Green, prosecuting.

She said Whitlam was arrested after being warned about her language. Whitlam, who admitted being drunk and disorderly, was not represented by a solicitor. She apologised for her behaviour.
