A tearful dad has described the horror of trying to give the 'kiss of life' to his dying 16-year-old daughter.
Shannon Deakin died in the early hours of Sunday morning from a pulmonary embolism, caused by a blood clot moving from her leg up to her chest. She collapsed in front of her parents at home in Croft Road, Hoyland, after being sent home from Barnsley Hospital hours earlier with some tablets for an infection.
Dad Bryan, 58, had first aid training when he was a manager at a bingo hall and tried in vain to revive her. "She wasn't breathing. I tried giving her the kiss of life, while I was talking to the paramedics on the phone, and just screaming at her.
"I just couldn't believe it. It was years ago I did the training. You never think for a minute you'll have to use it on your own baby."
An NHS Barnsley spokesman said a full review would be undertaken.
