Four-week-old Noel nearly didn't survive until Christmas.
The Patterdale terrier cross was found dumped in an alleyway in Grimethorpe.
He was wrapped in a soggy jumper until passers by rescued him and kept him warm."If they hadn't found him that night and warmed him up then I don't think he would have made it," said veterinary nurse, Daun Firth.
"He was wrapped in a jacket that was soaked through. He was lucky they saw his eyes poking out.
"He was very dehydrated but he's fine now and is eating normally which we're all very happy about."
Noel was taken to Churchfield Vets, Sackville Street, Barnsley, which had two kittens brought in this week dumped in Hoyle Mill.
All three have been re-homed by their rescuers but Daun said it reinforced why people should not give pets as gifts at Christmas.
"We're lucky that for all the horrible people that dump them there's nice people willing to take them in. People should think long and hard before getting pets as they're a big responsibility."
