Images of a pirate-themed waterpark being created at the Metrodome have been released.

 

The pictures of 'Calypso Cove', which is based on the hit film 'Pirates of the Caribbean' show a skull-shaped waterfall, flumes and a pirate ship play area with smaller slides.

 

Barnsley Premier Leisure contacted 3D Creations, after seeing photos of a pirate town, which was flown to the Caribbean and used in the hit film starring Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley.

 

The company has designed sets and backdrops for big name acts such as David Blaine, Westlife, Blur, Iron Maiden and Robbie Williams.

Ian Westwood, scenic designer, said: "After seeing the venue my first thought was ‘wow, this is a huge building with its own set of challenges’ but ones we are really looking forward to working on.

 

"We want people to feel like they are walking into a tropical paradise full of adventure."

The features will be built off site in pieces and will put together later.

Steve Roberts, of BPL, said the company had wanted to update the flumes using an idea that would not date.

 

The main competition and toddler pool are still open for swimming as the refurbishment takes place, with Calypso Cove opening in February.
