FATHER Darren Percival is set to continue his streak of raising money for his church’s fundraising appeal in crazy ways later this year when he abseils down Liverpool Cathedral.

St John the Baptist Church in Cudworth has been facing structural issues that are particularly affecting the west window masonry, roof and plastering.

It’s anticipated that around £750,000 is needed to fully restore the building to its glory - and Fr Darren has taken part in a series of fundraisers to help save the 19th century building.

Last month he had his legs waxed for charity and raised £2,000 in the process.

He told the Chronicle that was no issue at all and his next fundraiser is taking things one step further, abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral on July 19.

He said: “I managed to raise £2,000 which I’d say isn’t too bad for a leg wax.

“There was nothing to it.

“I’ve come to the community and I’m trying to save their church.”

And Darren won’t be alone in July as there’s a coach-load of people heading to support him.

“I’ve never done an abseil before,” he said.

“But we’ve got a coach full of people going across for support.

“I’m hoping to raise anywhere between £4,000 and £5,000.”
