PENISTONE Footpath Runner Dawn Broom represented England Masters against Wales at the Shrewsbury Running Festival.

She finished in 21-56 and placed sixth over60 woman on a hot and twisty 5k course. Her husband John Broom recorded 19-29, hitting the club’s ‘gold standard’ mark.

Barnsley AC’s Wayne Singleton qualified to represent England for the first time as he finished as fifth over40 man in 16-31.

Martin Hughes and Julia Johnson represented Penistone at the Riga Running Festival in Latvia. Martin completed the half marathon, while Julia ran 44-16 in the 10k to win her age group.

Several Barnsley club runners took part in the Great Manchester Run.

In the 10k, Penistone’s Jade Crosby ran 40-19 (PB), followed by Alex Crosby in 42-58 (PB). In the half marathon, Penistone’s Gemma Nutton finished in 1-44-35, Jill Scrivens clocked a PB of 1-48-42 and Rory O’Sullivan completed the course in 2-31-25. Alan Nutton recorded a time of 1-22-34. Barnsley AC’s Morgan Thompson finished the 10k race in 33-38 while his mum Jodie Thompson’s time was 1-08-54.

Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw finished as fourth woman and first over40 woman at the Big Green 10k in Scunthorpe.

Her time of 39-41 was her second fastest 10k and a season’s best. Chris McNicholas finished as third over60 man in 40-31 while Mark Wood ran 42-10.

Penistone sisters Lucy and Olivia Clough were rewarded with PBs.

Lucy was first back in 50-14 followed by Olivia in 55-39.

Barnsley AC’s Joe Restell finished as second over50 man at the Pontefract 10k with 36-34.

At the Chester Half Marathon, Penistone’s Loida Lopez clocked a PB of 1-47, finishing tenth out of 202 in the women’s over50 age category.

Barnsley AC’s Zoe and Lee Mitchell finished in 2-15-57.

Team Manvers held their Dearne Valley 10k which takes in Manvers Lake and some of the surrounding trails.

Barnsley AC’s Dave Allemby and Ben Hopson finished in times of 57-09 and 58-42 respectively. There was a PB for Wendy Jeffels, running her first 10k for Barnsley Harriers.

Penistone’s Daniel Canetti finished in 48-07, Emma Canetti in 1-00-12, Kate Rushforth in 58-28 and Sara Wolstenholme finished in 1-04.

Two Penistone runners took on the famously-tough Eyam Half Marathon in the Peak District. Stu Smith was first back for the club in 2-18-30 then Steve Dommett followed in 2-43-47.

Penistone’s Suzanne McGill was second woman at the Hathersage Hurtle.

Harriers Lisa Clarkson and Simon Haywood had splendid runs to finish as the first male and female back respectively, with PBs for Rachel Jardine, Jayne Galloway and Paula Mills. Ian Meade was first over70 man.

Penistone’s Joanne Boreham tackled the UTS Snowdonia 25k, finishing as 11th over50 woman in hot conditions.

Damien Briscoe battled round to finish the UTS 50k in just over 11 hours.

Penistone’s Mark Crossley ran his first road marathon at the Ian Milne White Peak Marathon, finishing in 4-24-05.

Penistone’s Graihagh Turner finished the FRA Junior Championships in Sedbergh, showing resilience despite sustaining a foot injury during the race.

Barnsley AC’s Beth Massey finished as fourth woman and first over50 woman at the Ripon ten-mile race. Her time was 79-03.

The White Peak Half Marathon follows the High Peak trail from Friden to Cromford. Barnsley AC’s Jayne Manley set a PB of 2-16-59 while Darrell Harrison finished in 1-55-06. There was a PB of almost two minutes for Harrier Angie Slater.

Barnsley AC’s Faye Lund ran in the 8k trail race as part of the Run Festival Tossa de Mar. With more than 800 feet of elevation, she finished with a gun time of 56-06.

Lisa Clarkson was the first Harrier back at the Oxspring Trunce, with PBs for Paul Wheatley and Shaun Clarkson.

The final race in this year’s South Yorkshire Road League took place in Ingbirchworth, hosted by Penistone Footpath Runners.

James Mumford led the host club home once again, securing 18th overall and rounding off a consistent series that saw him finish third as over40 man across the series. Suzanne McGill took the first over45 women’s prize – completing a clean sweep which made her the series champion – while Lois Lopez and Barbara Haigh were second over50 and first over75 respectively on the day and in the series.

Keith Gordon also completed a perfect season to win the men’s over75 category.

Jill Scrivens finished fourth in a competitive women’s over50 field and Shaun Swallow was fourth over55 man.

Barnsley AC’s Beth Massey came away with gold in the over50 women’s category while Naomi Drakeford (senior woman), Richard Copley (over35 man) and Joe Restell (over50 man) took silver.

The bronze in the over55 men’s event went to Neil Mower.

There were category prizes for Barnsley Harriers Katie Roberts (third over40 woman) Vikki Skipper (first over65 woman) and John Hewitt (first over75 man) plus a five-mile PB forJosh Jordan Clough by almost a minute.

The first fixture of the Northern Track and Field League East Division Two took place at Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton.

Despite a depleted team of just seven athletes, Barnsley AC came fourth out of eight with 245 points. Chris Gillott was first and set new PBs in 800m (1-57.7), 1500m (4-13.3) and 5000m (17-02.9).

Tony Richards-Vardy competed in seven events, throwing a PB of 12.92 in the javelin. Team manager Ray Archer also competed in seven events.

Under 17 Joe Cox ran PBs in 200m (27.5) and 1500m (4-53.7). Under 17 Amelie Spicer ran a 100m PB of 12.9 and came first in the 200m B. Under 20 Emily Richardson set a PB in 200m with 25.2 and finished first in the 400m A race.

Helen Morgan took part in her first Northern Track and Field competition, finishing first in the 800m (2-48.9), 1500m (5-44.9) and 3000m (12-12.2).
