BARNSLEY man Darren England was the fourth official for Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
The 39-year-old from Little Houghton – who is a regular Premier League referee – had previously been an assistant referee in the 2015 FA Cup final.
He has said he would like to complete the set by refereeing the showpiece game in the future – emulating fellow Barnsley man Steve Lodge who did so in 1997.
Meanwhile, Scott Ledger, from Royston, ran the line for Chelsea’s win over Manchester United in the Premier League on Friday evening then was the referee for the Sheffield FA Sunday Cup final between Athersley Rec and AFP Pewter Pot on Sunday. He managed Royston Steelers when they won the trophy in 2008, was in the Royston Ship squad which won it in 1996, and has been on the line and the referee. He is believed to be the first person to have performed all those roles in this final.
