CARRFIELD Primary Academy won the Don and Dearne Girls Cup, becoming the fourth different school to lift the trophy in its four-year history.
Back in 2022, Carrfield’s vice principal, Andy Morton, started the girls-only competition for the schools competing in the historic Totty Cup.
This year, his side went undefeated in the seven-team league with the stand-out players being Lydia Ludlam and Jessie Green.
The runners-up spot went to Wath Our Lady & St Joseph’s thanks to nine goals from Frankie Jeffries.
Wath C of E came third while also competing were Thurnscoe Gooseacre and Goldthorpe Sacred Heart.
For the first time, there was a second-tier competition for the girls’ teams not qualifying for the Don and Dearne Cup.
This new shield is named after a former England captain, Karen Walker, who went to school in Goldthorpe and watched Brampton Ellis win the shield with five wins out of their seven matches. Goldthorpe came third while Bolton Lacewood and Thurnscoe Hill also took part.
