HEROIC fundraiser Jim Morton who spent 537 days walking around the British coastline to raise £50,000 for the Ghurka Welfare Trust is set to put his walking boots back on for his next mission.

Jim Morton, from Penistone, set off in a motorhome with his wife Sue and dogs Shona and Maisie on April 12, 2021 - the day the Covid lockdown ended - to undertake his walk of a lifetime in aid of the charity.

Having completed it on September 31, 2022, Jim was slightly short and decided another mammoth task - walking the entirety of the D-Day beaches in time for June 6, the 80th anniversary of the operation.

He managed to raise a further £3,000 and, having published 1,000 books about his story - called I May Be Gone A While - he surpassed his £50,000 target before Christmas.

Jim is now set to take on the Pennine Way walk - which is 280 miles in distance - to raise even further funds for the Ghurka Welfare Trust.

He’s due to set off on Monday.

He told the Chronicle: “I’ve always wanted to do Pennine Way since I was a child.

“It’s 280 miles and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do it in around 16 days.

“It’s going to be different this time.

“Usually we take the motor home but we’ll be wild camping this time.

“I always walk on my own but this time I’ll be going with Stephen Hobbs who I used to be in the navy with.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to raise some more money but even if it’s not a lot it’s about raising some awareness.”
