A COUNCILLOR whose ambition to boost safety around schools in his ward is gathering pace is on the lookout for a cohort of junior wardens.

Coun Jake Lodge, who represents Worsbrough, highlighted issues plaguing schools at pick-up and drop-off times.

The scheme upskills children with knowledge and information around road safety but also supports them to talk to road users and challenge poor practices, including parking.

Although the matter is something that impacts most areas in the town, Coun Lodge said issues have become dangerous in his patch.

He said: “This is an exciting opportunity for children in our community to learn more about road safety and promote safety as they grow, but it’s also an innovative way to tackle the issue of problem parking around our schools - who better than your own kids to tell you off?

“But this is part of wider work I am doing to improve this issue, including working with enforcement officers and highways to look at physical options.’’
