BARNSLEY Council has removed ‘hateful graffiti’ that appeared on the bridge at Penny Pie Park last week.

The council has reiterated that Barnsley has a ‘no place for hate’ policy - and confirmed that they are in contact with South Yorkshire Police over the incident.

A spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to confirm that our graffiti removal team has attended the site and removed the graffiti.

“Work is now ongoing to remove the remainder of the large-scale graffiti that was also present.

“Thank you to the team for their swift response, especially given the scale of the clean-up required.

“The incident has been reported to South Yorkshire Police and referred to their intelligence team.

“We are also reviewing CCTV footage in the area to explore any potential lines of inquiry that may help identify those responsible.

“We are committed to keeping our public spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone.
