A PROLIFIC shoplifter from Barnsley has been jailed and handed a criminal behaviour order after being found hiding from officers behind a fridge.

Tyler Spurr, 21, of Silverdale Drive, went on a shoplifting spree in May, stealing items including chocolate, soft drinks, meat, and other food items, totalling a value of £827.90 from local stores.

Comprehensive CCTV work identified Spurr in the act of committing these offences and officers quickly obtained a warrant for her arrest.

When they entered the property, officers found Spurr attempting to hide behind her fridge, not wanting to face the consequences of her actions.

She was quickly arrested and charged with multiple thefts.

She pleaded guilty to 13 counts of theft at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on June 2 and last Tuesday she appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.

The 21-year-old was handed an eight-week prison sentence and told she will not be allowed to enter the Co-op on Laithes Lane and Carlton Road for two years.

PC Deanne Cooper, from the Barnsley Safer Neighbourhood Service, said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime like many of us may think.

“No shop worker should go to work and be expected to deal with shoplifters.

“Spurr’s repeat offending clearly shows that she has no regard for her actions and would have continued to offend if she was not caught.”
