THE organisers behind Barnsley Live are urging people to donate to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after admitting they were ‘disappointed’ with the overall total raised.

Thousands descended on the town centre last month to watch free live music at over 20 venues - with the hot weather making it an even more enjoyable day for all.

But after totting up this year’s total for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, organisers said that the £3,479 was disappointing.

The previous year’s total had gone past £5,000.

They’re now urging people to donate even £1 to the charity.

A spokesperson said: “That’s all that was raised - after nine hours of completely free live music, across over 20 venues, with more than 150 acts, countless volunteers, and months of unpaid organising.

“Every year, all we ask is for a small donation from those who attend - just a couple of pounds towards our charity partner.

“This year, that partner was Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a life-saving service that receives no direct government funding and relies entirely on public support.

“With the size of the crowds we saw this year, this number feels disheartening.

“If everyone who came had dropped in just £1, it could have made a huge difference.

“If you enjoyed the day, if you believe in what Barnsley Live stands for, please consider donating.”
