A PUPIL at Netherwood Academy has won the Yorkshire Speak Out Challenge Final.
The Speakers Trust works with over 600 state secondary schools across England, providing young people with practical oracy skills and delivering its flagship Speak Out Challenge programmes.
This year the trust has helped more than 35,000 youngsters, equipping state school pupils with the skills and confidence they need to share their ideas and reach their potential.
At this year’s final, year ten pupil Aren Heeley returned victorious after impressing the judges with a speech about love and being kind to everyone.
Rebekah Ramsden, regional director for secondary education at Astrea Academy Trust in South Yorkshire, said: “We are incredibly proud of Aren for his success and of all our Astrea pupils who took part in this competition.
“They all spoke with confidence and sincerity and we know that they have all benefited from taking part in this Speakers Trust challenge, as they build their cultural capital.
“At Astrea, we value the all-round development of our pupils, whether through arts, sports, leadership opportunities, enrichment activities and community engagement.”
