A BARNSLEY factory worker has received a four-figure pay-out after he was electrocuted while at work.
Premier Foods has agreed to pay compensation to the Unite the Union member - who wishes to remain anonymous - after he received an electric shock while at the company’s Carlton factory on Fish Dam Lane last October.
The incident occurred when the worker was instructed to place a portable vibration bed machine under a conveyor belt to begin production.
After plugging in the machine, the worker leaned forward to check it was operating correctly.
Without warning, he received an electric shock that threw him backward, causing him to strike his lower legs against the equipment.
He sustained lacerations, bruising, and permanent scarring to his legs, along with ongoing symptoms including headaches and fatigue.
The man then instructed Thompsons Solicitors, though his Unite the Union membership, over concerns that the incident could have been avoided.
A four-figure settlement was agreed with Premier Foods following negotiations, without the need for court proceedings.
The firm also admitted blame for the incident and have removed the equipment.
