A labrador was rescued by fire-fighters after it became trapped in the river Dearne.
Fire crews were called by its distressed owner at about 10.10am on Saturday.
Emergency operator Neil Ducker persuaded her not to go in after the dog which was stuck in the river off Doncaster Road, Darfield. Fire-fighters from Dearne rescued the dog from the river which had swollen from Friday's rainfall.
Station manager Jon Torn said his colleague had prevented a drowning risk. "I believe they stopped her from attempting to rescue the dog herself, which could have meant we would of ended up with a more serious incident, and they should be praised for their actions."
