A CHARITY which supports children with limb difference welcomed more than 700 people to their annual adventure day in Cawthorne recently.
The LimbBo Foundation took over Cawthorne Cricket Club’s ground.
Marie Tidball, who represents the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, is an ambassador for the charity and is the first MP to be elected with congenital limb difference.
She said: “I’m so grateful to the LimbBo trustees and all the volunteers for putting on such a fantastic day for all the children and young people with limb difference who attended.
“Creating a network across our country has provided much-needed support for families who have a child with limb difference.
“I’m so proud to be a LimbBo ambassador for our incredible Barnsley-based charity, and I had a brilliant time at the adventure day too.
“It was also really lovely to meet Anna-Maria Mountfort who had come all the way from Canada, and makes specialist gloves for people with limb difference.”
The LimbBo Foundation was founded in 2018, following with birth of Tommy in 2014, by his parents Adam and Katie Dengel, grandmother Jane Hewitt and family friend Paul Woodcock.
Tommy was born missing his right hand and part of his right forearm, and his family wanted to ensure other similar children and families did not feel isolated.
Jane added: “It’s always a joy to meet up with our children and see how much they have grown.
“The hugs, the tears of happiness and sheer relief at ‘finding their tribe’ is palpable.
“The messages from parents afterwards shows us how much this event is a boost to their child’s emotional wellbeing.
“So many local firms and individuals volunteered their time on set up day and the day itself. Barnsley people have a great heart and this was shown by all of our volunteers.”
