DAMAGE caused to Barnsley Town Hall’s gardens and a commemorative plinth in honour of Princess Diana has been condemned by the council.
The incident - which occurred last Friday night - has resulted in CCTV being checked this week in an attempt to identify the person responsible.
A floral display was damaged, as well as the stone plinth which had its edges hacked off.
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “I am appalled by the act of vandalism on the town hall gardens last Friday night.
“The gardens are a well-loved area of our town centre and it is incredibly disappointing that someone has taken it upon themselves to commit this act of damage.
“We will fix the damage that has been caused and work with our partners to find whoever is responsible for this vandalism.”
