Barnsley are in the hat for the third round of the EFL Cup after coming from behind to win 2-1 over near neighbours Rotherham United at Oakwell on Tuesday evening.
The Reds were poor in the first half and trailed 1-0 but Jon Russell and Adam Phillips put them in front in a much-improved second period.
It was a seventh straight win against the Millers who have not won at Oakwell since 1970.
Barnsley made seven changes from their league game on Saturday – when they lost 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon – and Rotherham three.
Mael de Gevigney, returning after injury, came into the side along with Connor Barratt, Neil Farrugia, Jono Bland, Vimal Yoganathan, Russell and Reyes Cleary. Phillips, Nathanael Ogbeta, Patrick Kelly and Josh Earl dropped to the bench while Tennai Watson, Luca Connell and David McGoldrick were not involved at all.
Rotherham had two massive chances to take the lead after ten minutes. Shaun McWilliams was put through by a long ball and, after rounding Yoganathan, was denied one-on-one by Murphy Cooper then Barratt saved on the line from Kion Etete’s follow-up. From the resulting corner, Etete’s flick was well-saved by Cooper then Shepherd blocked on the line from Marvin Kaleta.
The visitors took the lead on 19 minutes when Ar’jany Martha received the ball on the left wing and cut past de Gevigney, who fouled him but the referee played advantage, then found the bottom left corner from just inside the box.
Millers captain Liam Kelly took a quick free-kick and swapped passes with Etete before blasting across goal from a tight angle on the left.
Russell could have levelled against the run of play but he headed wide from close range just before half-time after meeting a lofted pass by Cleary.
In the second half, Keillor-Dunn shot over from just inside the box after receiving a pass by Caylan Vickers then, at the other end following a poor de Gevigney header, McWilliams’ 20-yard shot was turned onto the bar by Murphy.
The equaliser saw Keillor-Dunn play in Ogbeta on the left and his low cross was deftly flicked in by Russell from close range.
Bland almost scored his first professional goal but, after a clever one, two with Vickers, he struck the base of the left post.
Martha put the ball in the net again but he was nearly offside as he turned in Joe Rafferty’s cross from the right of the box.
It was Barnsley who took the lead when, after Vickers burst into the box and saw a shot saved on the left, Farrugia pulled the ball back to Phillips who fired home from ten yards out.
Vickers again burst into the box on the left and saw a shot saved by Cameron Dawson before young substitute Leo Farrell shot wide in the box and being played in by Phillips.
Cooper pushed away an effort deep in injury-time from Kelly, with goalkeeper Dawson in the Reds box.
