Penistone Church remain unbeaten with four wins and two draws from their opening six games in NCEL Division One.

Church, who are second in the table, won 4-2 at Horbury Town on Tuesday.

They were 3-0 up on 19 minutes thanks to an own goal then strikes by Sam Scrivens and Jordan Coduri.

Horbury made it 3-2 at the break but Kieran Ryan netted early in the second half.

Coach John Whitehead said: “We set off like our houses were on fire.

“You’re thinking ‘what a night it’s going to be’.

“We had the game in our hands then totally took our foot off the throttle and it was bizarre.

“They could smell blood and they were after us, but we managed the game excellently in the second half and scored another goal.”
