A BARNSLEY charity has encouraged local people to buy pre-loved goods.
Barnsley Hospice has pledged to the local community to partake in Second Hand September, a campaign created by Oxfam promoting sustainable shopping through the month.
The hospice’s Retail Hub, based in Dodworth, encourages donations and purchases in support of both the environment and its vital work in palliative and end-of-life care.
In June 2025, the weekend ‘pop-up shop’ in the town centre’s Glass Works generated £8,695 for the hospice.
The Retail Hub boasts clothes for all genders, vintage fashion, children’s wear and toys, alongside furniture and accessories.
Whilst two-thirds of the charity’s running costs are funded by the kindness of public donations, the Retail Hub plays a vital role in fundraising efforts.
The Retail Hub will visit the Penistone Show next Saturday with a few rails of clothing items available.
Julia Bowness, head of business development at Barnsley Hospice, said: “Second Hand September is a great excuse to have a wardrobe clear-out and donate items to Barnsley Hospice’s Retail Hub.
“We’d be really grateful to receive pre-loved clothes and good quality items.
“Every purchase and donation means the hospice can be there for the people of Barnsley and their loved ones.
“Just because some of our items are second-hand, it doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality or style.
“We’d be grateful to receive the support of the Barnsley public this Second Hand September.
“Receiving donations and purchasing from us helps Barnsley Hospice be there for those who need us most.”
