FORMER Barnsley footballer Jon Parkin scored 133 not out in his final game as Darfield 2nd XI beat Green Moor in South Yorkshire League Division Six.
Parkin, 43, has played for local club Darfield throughout his career as a striker for the likes of Preston North End before becoming a successful podcaster with Undr The Cosh.
On why he was retiring from cricket, Parkin said: “I’m crap. I’ve not scored many runs so I’ve thrown my teddy out of the cot and that’s me done. I had a new knee in November so I am costing them 20 runs in the field anyway so I have to score 20 to break even.
“I only turn up once every month or so. I do after dinner speaking on a Saturday and Barnsley town centre is good on a Saturday afternoon now.
“It’s been a long time coming scoring some runs and it didn’t make me change my mind. I still play golf but I am bang average at that too so I might knock that on the head as well.”
Curtis Coles made 62 in Green Moor’s 201 then Parkin hit 17 fours and seven sixes off 82 balls to secure an eight-wicket win.
