Cyclist Jenson Young is hopeful his bad luck is behind him after he pulled off a solo victory in North Wales.
Hemingfield’s Young, 24, secured the win at Graean Cymru on Sunday.
The 110km course close to Conwy involved 1,800m of climbing and took in the gravel roads through Clocaenog Forest before finishing at Brenig Resevoir.
Young, representing Ribble Outliers, got away from the strong field to finish well clear.
Young has been racing around the world as part of a gravel racing series this season.
He has secured another year of racing with Ribble and was pleased to taste victory.
Young said: “I am really happy with the win.
“I was a minute ahead of second and then third was even further back
“To be fair, I’ve had a lot of back luck with mechanicals this year so it was nice that it all came together.
“It’s my first season racing gravel after cyclocross and racing on the road so it’s still completely new to me.
“I am still learning but it seems like this suits me the best.
“It was nice to win a British race and it’s great to know I am carrying on for another year.
“The team is really pleased. They did not expect to win any UCI World Series races in the first year but that’s two now for the team.”
Young had little time to celebrate victory and is heading to North Yorkshire for another important weekend.
It is the National Gravel Racing Championships in Dalby Forest this weekend.
Young will be competing in the time-trial and the race.
He added: “It’s a bit of confidence going into this weekend. It is a good startlist with pros.
“It was a good field in Wales, not far off the same standard too, so I’m feeling good.”
