BARNSLEY club runners took on the Great North Run this week.
The first Penistone Footpath Runners finisher was Richard Cottam in 1-15-38.
Team-mate Andrew Heppenstall finished in 1-16-59, while first woman back for the club was Jade Crosby in 1-32-44. Also running were Rob Lees (1-26-59) and daughter Millie in the junior event, Damian Kilpin (1-30-49) who raised money for Barnsley Hospital Charity, Gareth Irvine (1-31-35), Alex Crosby (1-39-39), Gemma Nutton (1-43-32), Ian McNulty (2-04-23), Dan Canetti (2-06-32), Shaun Swallow (2-08-26) and Emma Canetti (2-29-24). Barnsley AC trio Vicky Shaw, Taylor Hughes and Dave Findlay took part. Dave ran a course PB of 1-41-32 while Taylor finished in 1-33-01. Vicky’s time of 1-31-36 was her second fastest ever half marathon.
Barnsley Harrier Zach Wilkinson finished in 1-31-10. Andy Bell and Wendy Jeffels also ran their first GNR with Andy raising £450 for Barnsley Hospice.
Four Penistone members formed part of a team in the Kinder Barrel Race, which involves carrying a beer barrel over four miles of hill, trail and felly moorland in Edale. Shaun Swallow, Brent Carlin, Mark Crossley and Dave Lovatt took part, finishing fourth in 75 minutes.
At the Vale of York half marathon, Penistone’s Suzanne McGill finished as 21st female and first over45 in a time of 1-31-22. Lois Lopez came 161st in 2-00-27. Oliver France competed in the 10k event, finishing 30th in 41-58.
Barnsley AC’s Josh Bird finished ninth at the half marathon in 1-12-51 while Nathan Doy’s time was 1-18-37. Lee Yoxall, running his first half marathon race, finished in 1-28-16. In the 10k race, Beth Massey was fourth woman overall and first over55 woman with 43-58.
Paula Mills led back the 12 Barnsley Harriers in the half marathon. She gained a seven-second PB and was second over55 with club-mate Rachel Jardine third over55. Vikki Skipper was second over65. There was a PB for Nicola Wilkinson. Barnsley Harrier Simon Newton was second over45 man in the 10k and 29th overall with 41-53.
Three Penistone runners took on the Great Longstone fell race. Steve Storey was first back for the club in 44-52, followed by Harriet Drouin (48-39) and Mandy Mallinder (52-36).
A number of Penistone runners took part in the Worrall Chase, a 4.5-mile off-road event in the outskirts of Sheffield.
Flynn Rogers was first back for the club, finishing ninth in 32-31, with Ian Neville one place behind in 32-41 to claim the first over60 prize. First woman back for the club was Suzanne McGill in 34-08 to take 19th. Barnsley AC’s Philip Morgan was first over50 man in 31-57.
In Derbyshire, the Wilne 10k took place with age category wins for Barnsley AC’s Dave Brooksbank (over65 man) and Gail Colville (over60 woman) in 41-02 and 42-38 respectively. Gail’s time is the official Barnsley AC club record for over60 women. Keith Littlewood was third over55 man in 39-30.
Chris McNicholas (41-41) and Ian Copley (53-24) also finished.
The Waverley Dash is an approximately 10k race in Sheffield. Barnsley AC’s Philip Morgan finished fourth overall and second over50 man in 40-17. Dave Allemby finished the course in 62-28.
At the York Open track meeting, Barnsley AC’s under 15 boys Charley Marshall, Thomas Clark and Riley Hall competed. Charley ran 100m in 13.36 and 400m in a PB of 58.26. Thomas and Riley finished the 200m in 26.37 and 25.18 and 300m in 41.25 and 39.46 respectively.
Harrier Jay West finished in first place at the official Sun Run 5k in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.
Deborah Wilson was the lone Harrier at Wigan 10k, with a course PB of more two minutes in 55-14. She was third over60.
