A COLOURFUL mural in Locke Park which was damaged after a wheelie bin was set alight is set to be repainted.

The mural was original created by an artist known as Andy B back in 2020 in what’s called the Fairy Garden of the Kingstone park.

Those who visit the site are immediately drawn to them, but they were recently vandalised.

Dave Harwood, a volunteer of the Friends of Locke Park, told the Chronicle: “A wheelie bin was set on fire next to the mural about a week ago and it’s caused all the damage.

“I managed to get some of the soot off but the corner of the mural has been destroyed.

“The garden’s had a lot of vandalism in the last four or five years but this is the first time it’s happened to the mural.”

The group issued a plea on social media for someone to help, and Catherine Rodgers was quick to lend a hand.

“We posted something on social media to see if anyone would be able to help,” he added.

“We’ve had someone come out and look at it and she’s going to do it free of charge.”
