HEROIC fundraiser Jim Morton is inviting locals to take part in a special walk later this month which will result in him walking his 10,000th mile for the Ghurka Welfare Trust.
The 65-year-old from Penistone set off in a motorhome with his wife Sue and dogs Shona and Maisie on April 12, 2021 - the day the Covid lockdown ended - to undertake his walk of a lifetime in aid of the charity.
Having completed it on September 31, 2022, Jim was slightly short and decided another mammoth task - walking the entirety of the D-Day beaches in time for June 6, the 80th anniversary of the operation.
He has so far walked just under 10,000 miles in aid of the Ghurka Welfare Trust, raising more than £52,000 in the process.
And he’ll walk from Dunford Bridge back to Penistone on Sunday, September 28 to reach the 10,000-mile mark.
He told the Chronicle: “I’m excited for it.
“I’ve invited local people to take part in the final six miles of the journey.
“I started this in 2021.
“When I saw that I only had a few miles to go to reach 10,000 I thought that I just couldn’t stop here.
“That’s why I want local people to come and do the last stretch with me.”
The walk will kick off at 9.30am at Dunford Bridge.
