Fears of a broken rail at Wombwell caused train delays between Barnsley and Sheffield this morning.

Network Rail engineers were called out to the track at 8.20am on Thursday after a suspected broken rail was reported.

Once engineers arrived they found it was not broken but remedial work was needed which took about an hour. Both tracks were closed while it was completed.

Delays of up to 20 minutes were caused for services between Barnsley and Sheffield but they were expected to be running as normal by midday.
