WORSBROUGH Bridge are enjoying the best run in their club’s history at NCEL level, having won eight consecutive Division One matches.
After losing their opening two games of the season, Bridge have won the next eight to leave them third in the table – three points off top with games in hand on the teams above them.
Manager Lee Morris said: “To win eight on the bounce at any level or with any budget is a massive achievement.
“To have taken 24 points out of the last 24 is frightening.
“The lads are doing well and, whether you’re winning or losing, there is a snowball effect when you go on a run.
“The lads just can’t wait to get on the pitch. We just need to keep it going as long as we can, stay with the big boys and see where it takes us.
“I won’t get carried away because I’ve been around the game for too long.
“We’ll keep the lads grounded and just make sure they enjoy it. But, long-term, I’ve said before I hope we can get to where the club has never been.”
They then hosted Winterton Rangers on Wednesday, in Morris’ 200th game in change, and won 4-0.
After a goalless first half, they netted four times between 47 and 67 minutes.
Josh Brown opened the scoring then Jake Squires added two before Harrison Marvin made it 4-0.
Morris said: “200 games is a good milestone and a very nice honour. It’s been a privilege to manage this club for 200 games and I hope for many more.
“Winterton are fighting for their lives.
“We could have scored three or four in the first 15 or 20 minutes but so could they before half-time. We totally controlled the second half and could have scored more.”
Dearne and District lost their top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday at Harrogate Railway. The 3-1 defeat ended a four-game winning run for Zeph Thomas’ side, who remain top but Harrogate are just a point behind with a game in hand.
The hosts scored either side of half-time then, after Jamie Austin replied, Harrogate netted again late on.
Athersley Rec went down 3-0 at Maltby Main on Wednesday.
Rec, who have lost their last three matches, have 12 points from 12 games and are four points and three places above the relegation zone.
