A GROUP of Penistone runners travelled over to Vilnius to compete in ParkRun, 5k, 10k, half-marathon and marathon events in the Lithuanian capital.
At Vingis ParkRun, Jackie Howsham completed her 300th event, while Jill Scrivens took the over55 record with a time of 23-08. Julia Johnson was first back for Penistone in 22-41.
Most members competed in the 5k, 10k, and half-marathon events, while John Howsham completed the marathon in 4-40-17.
At the Junior Home International Fell Championships in Wales, Penistone’s Graihagh Turner represented England and finished ninth in the under 20 category. It was her first time competing in that age bracket for the championships.
Penistone’s Nichola McNally was second woman at the Langdale Marathon in 3-45-55. At the event called ‘the hardest marathon in the UK’ with more than 1,000 metres of ascent, she finished ninth overall.
Penistone’s Mark Crossley completed the MRT Nine Edges Fell Race in four hours and 16 minutes.
Starting at Fairholmes reservoir, the route covers 20 miles over the nine ‘edges’ of Derwent, Stanage, Burbage North, Burbage South, Froggart, Curbar, Baslow, Gardoms and Birchen.
Craig Parker was the only Barnsley Harrier at the Wetherby 10k, finishing in 54-44
Harrier Sarah Warrilow ran the Liverpool Women’s 10k in 57-33.
Harrier Dean Goodwin completed the 100-mile Hardwick Hall Rasselbock Backyard Ultra in 19 hours and 37 minutes.
Barnsley AC had several members compete at the Doncaster Sprint/Endurance Open Meeting.
Senior man Chris Gillott won the Donny Mile race in a PB of 4-34-38.
Under 15 Thomas Clark set PBs and finished first in the 100m with 12.62 and 200m with 25.81. Under 15 Riley Hall ran 100m in the 12.47 to finish third and was first over 200m with 24.84.
Under 17 Amelie Spicer was first in the 100m and 200m with times of 13.09 and 26.92. Under 15 Charley Marshall set a PB of 41.79, finishing first over 300m, and finished third in 200m with 25.92.
Under 17 Joe Cox was third over 800m with a PB of 2-10.27. Under 17 Poppy Kaye finished second in the 100m with 13.34.
Under 17 Rose Kaye finished sixth but was second woman in 800m with 2-53.35.
Over80 Rod Scholes ran times of 38.61 for 200m and 3-27.36 for 800m.
At the Julie Gibson Memorial Open in Hull, Barnsley AC came away with five gold medals, one silver and two bronze.
Under 15 Riley Hall took gold over 100m and 300 with times of 12.39 and 41.49.
Under 17 Amelie Spicer collected triple gold in 100m (13.16), 200m (27.34) and 300m (44.92). 100m bronze went to under 17 Georgia Smith with 14.01.
Under 17 Evie Donaldson took 100m silver in 13.74 and 200m bronze with 28.72.
The 2025 Oxspring Trunce series was wrapped up with the final race of the year. Traditionally completed in fancy dress, there was a strong Penistone turn-out and several prize winners.
George Parr won the race in 27-58, while Hannah Shaw was sixth woman overall and first female back for the club (39-33).
In the overall season results, Richard Cottam won the series with three race wins and several podium finishes over the series.
Other category winners were Jon Hallam (over40 man), Ian Neville (over50 man), Hannah Shaw (senior woman), Jill Scrivens (over50 woman), Susie Braddock (over60 woman), Barbara Haigh (over70 woman).
