A WAR memorial in Blacker Hill has been refurbished as part of a community enhancement project.
Hoyland Milton councillors Robin Franklin, Mick Stowe and Tim Shepherd recently visited the site which has seen a new flagpole and groundworks installed.
The project has been delivered in partnership with the local ward alliance, Hoyland Remembrance and Parade Group and the Hoyland Regeneration Partnership Group.
Further improvements to the memorial site are scheduled for completion by mid-October, ensuring it remains a place of dignity, remembrance, and community pride for generations to come.
Coun Mick Stowe told the Chronicle: “It’s about more than bricks and mortar - it’s about building stronger, safer, and more connected communities where everyone feels they have a voice, a stake, and a place.
“The new flagpole isn’t just a structure - it’s a statement. It says we remember, we respect, and we invest in places that matter to people.
“It’s a tribute to those who served, and a promise to future generations that their stories will be honoured in spaces that reflect dignity and pride.
“I’m proud to see this programme making a real difference not just in Blacker Hill, not just in Hoyland Milton, but across our borough.”
