The screen, stage and TV star was given the honour as part of his role as chancellor of the university.
The number of students qualifying made it the biggest graduation day to date for the UCB with three separate ceremonies held to award all the students.
Also present in their ceremonial robes were cricket umpire Dickie Bird and fashion guru Rita Britton, who both have honorary doctorates.
