A BILLINGLEY born and bred woman has been crowned Mrs Asia Great Britain in her first pageant - and she’s gearing up to compete in Tennessee next year.
Tina Smith, nee Dutta, had never competed in a beauty pageant before but after picking up the crown she’s certainly glad she did.
Born in Billingley, her late father was Dr Ahindra Nath Dutta who was a local GP for 40 years in Thurnscoe and her mum still lives in the area.
The 43-year-old moved down to London after university but still holds Barnsley close to her heart.
Tina is a vet and was taken out of her comfort zone during the competition - but she’s excited to compete in Tennessee next year.
She told the Chronicle: “I heard about the competition and thought I’d give it a bash.
“It was an amazing experience
“We did six weeks of training where we learned about mindset, being positive and public speaking and then the finale consisted of two interviews, a speech and a cat walk.
“I didn’t think I’d win at all.
“I can go to international competitions now.
“It gives me a real platform to help others.”
