BARNSLEY Woolley Miners CC's latest overseas signing for the 2026 season is Pakistani batter Ali Zaryab.
The 27-year-old averages 42 in First Class cricket and has played for Pakistan A.
Cricket chair Jason Booth said: “We think we’ve gone back to the quality of Jake Weatherald and Harpreet Singh.
“He’s been scoring loads of runs in First Class cricket this season so it’s an exciting signing.
“We now have the overseas we will look to bring in some more players and build a team that can compete for promotion around our talented young players.”
Barnsley have lost Owen Smith, their highly-rated batter who has been in the academy since the age of eight and plays for Yorkshire 2nd XI, to Castleford.
Booth said: “We wanted to sign him on a contract but he’s decided to move on.
“We didn’t want him to but we respect his wishes hopefully and he’ll be back in years to come.
“He’s the only first team player we’ve lost so far. At the minute, we still have our other Yorkshire players – Charlie Taylor, Harvey Round and Rizwan Ishfaq.”
Barnsley, who have confirmed Boeta Beukes will remain as captain, were relegated out of the top division of Yorkshire cricket for the first time in their history this season.
They will now play in the South Yorkshire Championship.
Booth said: “We make every decision in the best interests of the future of the club.
“We chose to focus on developing young talent. You have good times and low times. We’re in one of our most challenging times but we’re confident that we have a very good chance of going straight back up and competing in the Premier League.”
