FORMER Barnsley Woolley Miners cricketer Jake Weatherald said it was an ‘amazing moment’ to open the batting for Australia in the first Test of this year’s Ashes in Perth – even if he was out for a duck.
The 31-year-old faced just two balls in the first innings before being out lbw to Jofra Archer.
Weatherald then batted alongside match winner Travis Head in the second innings, scoring 23.
Weatherald said: “It was an amazing moment, something that I’ve obviously dreamed about as a kid and most of my adulthood, too.
“Every day I’ve gone to training, it’s all I’ve aspired to be is a Test cricketer and be a part of one of the greatest sporting teams in the world.
“It was something that I had found incredibly emotional for myself.”
