Barnsley will look to reach the last 16 of the EFL Trophy for the first time since they won the competition in 2016 when they visit fellow League One club Port Vale on Tuesday from 7pm.

The Reds reached the knock-out rounds on goal difference despite losing two of their three group games.

They now visit Vale who are bottom of League One, winless in eight since a 2-0 success at Oakwell in September and without a goal in their last six league games. They scored nine times in their three Trophy games as they beat Leeds under 21s and Accrington but lost on penalties to Fleetwood after a 3-3 draw.

Vale are managed by former Reds defender Darren Moore while they have ex-Barnsley players Devante Cole and Joe Gauci.

Barnsley lost at Vale Park in the trophy in 2004 and 2022 while Vale are the most common opponents in their history, with this the 121st meeting.

If he plays, Adam Phillips will make his 150th appearance for the Reds.
