BARNSLEY club runners enjoyed success at various events this week including some popular 10k runs in Yorkshire.

More than 10,000 runners took part in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k which is a fast out and back course taking in the historical Kirkstall Abbey.

There were PBs for Barnsley AC’s Gary Briscoe (32-04), Morgan Thompson (32-33), Wayne Singleton (32-44), Jack Bellamy (33-28), Mark Oxley (35-26), Taylor Hughes (36-41), Lee Yoxall (38-00) and Jack Quigley (39-19). Keith Littlewood ran a season’s best of 37-48.

There were huge PBs for Barnsley Harriers’ Tanya Gains (four minutes) and Nic Wilkinson (three minutes).

Following his half marathon PB last week, James Morgan gained another PB. Gem Lister and Emma Wright also achieved PBs.

There were 3,000 runners at the Doncaster 10k.

First back for Barnsley AC was Nathan Doy in a season’s best time of 33-41.

Next back was first over40 man Ashley Abrahams with a PB of 34-17.

There were PBs for Gregg Harrison (38-41), Stefen Radyk (57-46) and first under 18 female Nel Butterley (44-36).

Gail Colville finished as first over60 woman in a season’s best 42-30.

Mark Wood (40-04) and Richard Butterley (45-15) also ran season’s best times. Vicky Shaw was second over40 woman in a course PB time of 40-30.

Rich Spooner led back the Barnsley Harriers at the Doncaster 10k and was eighth in his age category.

David Thompson, Katie Roberts and Paula Mills all finished in the top ten for their age categories.

There were PBs for Sarah Stables, Claire Clarke, John McAvinue, Lindsey Wilmot and Deborah Carrington.

Penistone Footpath Runner Jade Crosby ran strongly to record 40-19 and finish as 23rd woman overall.

Barnsley Harriers Vikki and John Skipper ran the Cranberry Crawl ten-miler in Washington DC.

Both Vikki and John came first in their respective age categories (over65 man and over65 woman).

Barnsley AC’s Jodie Thompson set a PB of 1-03-52 at Running GP Croft Motor Circuit 10k in Darlington.

At the Lee Mill Fell Relay in Bacup, Lancashire, Penistone fielded four teams on the challenging moorland course.

The Penistone men came ninth overall with strong runs from George Parr, Richard Cottam, Damian Kilpin and Oliver Pike.

The first mixed team came fifth in their category with runs by Lesley Parker, Steve Sanders, Emily Freeman and Chris Hodgson, while the second mixed team were 11th thanks to the efforts of Jill Scrivens, Emma Stead, Becky Timms and Steve Stead.

The Penistone men’s over50 came third in their category through solid contributions from Steve Storey, Shaun Swallow, Ian Neville and Paul Fryers.

Three Penistone runners took part in the Baslow Bolt, a popular multi-terrain race through the fields and woodland of Derbyshire. Phil Hinchliffe led the trio home in 1-10-34, followed by Dan Rushforth in 1-11-02, while Robin Clough completed the group in 1-22-51.

Penistone’s Dawn and John Broom travelled to London for the British Masters Road 5k Championships.

John ran 19-22 to finish 15th in the men’s over55 category, while Dawn produced 21-22 to take sixth place among the women’s over60.

At the weekend’s ParkRuns, 55 Penistone seniors represented the club across 21 venues.

The performance of the weekend came from Graihagh Turner, who finished as first woman and second overall at Barnsley.

There were further first-place finishes for Richard Heppenstall at Concord, George Parr at Penistone, where he also celebrated his 150th ParkRun, and Hugh Mackie at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Milestones included Ian Neville completing his 650th ParkRun with third place at Barnsley and Helen Turner finishing third woman at the same venue on her 50th ParkRun.

The top age-graded performances of the weekend came from Julia Johnson on 88.8 per cent, Richard Heppenstall on 84.25 per cent, Graihagh Turner on 78.73 per cent, Ian Neville on 78.15 per cent and Hugh Mackie on 76.93 per cent.

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke was first finisher at Cross Flatts ParkRun in a time of 17-22.

At Penistone ParkRun, Jamie Dixon ran his 25th in 22-01.
