TWO Worsbrough councillors have secured money to pay for a new public art and heritage project in the area.

It will bring together community voices, creative interpretation, and local history to tell the story of Worsbrough in an engaging, and lasting way, a project that creates a rich trail experience that connects people to place - past, present, and future.

Financed from Section 106 monies related to the former Mount Vernon Hospital housing estate, the trail consists of several key elements.

The sculpture, created by artist Patrick Murphy, will be installed at a significant location within Worsbrough, a piece of work that will incorporate original artwork and a town poem reflecting the area’s landscape, heritage and identity.

In addition, work will take place to enhance and expand the current provision for outdoor play at Worsbrough Mill and Country Park, creating a more enjoyable visitor experience for families and providing further opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploration of the country park.

Coun Roy Bowser said: “These fantastic new projects, with significant funding will enhance access to cultural experiences, preserve local heritage and create new opportunities for community engagement.”

Coun John Clarke added: “This 400-year-old mill and country park should be preserved and enhanced at all costs, this development will go some way to future proofing the site.”
