MORE than 3,000 runners finished the Percy Pud 10k in Sheffield this week including plenty from Barnsley clubs who secured prizes and personal bests.
There were 25 Penistone Footpath Runners competing, as Flynn Rogers led the club home with 34-52 for 52nd place while Richard Heppenstall impressed with 36-01 to take second place in the men’s over50 category.
There were age category wins for Barnsley AC’s over45 man Wayne Singleton (33-11), over60 man Chris McNicholas (39-47) and over65 man Dave Brooksbank (40-16).
Over40 woman Lydia Race (38-02) and over60 woman Gail Colville took second place in their age categories.
Chris McNicholas and Lydia Race’s times were course PBs. Overall 10k PBs were set by Tristan Davies-Bennett (34-59) and Jack Quigley (38-18).
Gareth Cooke returned to racing after injury and finished 13th overall in 32-50.
Eleven Barnsley Harriers took part in the Percy Pud.
Fiona Davies was second over50 woman with her fastest 10k time since 2019.
Jay West knocked more than three minutes off his previous best time. Clare Clark ran the distance for the first time.
Penistone were out in force at the Gravy Pud Fell Race in Tintwistle, a five-mile route featuring more than 300 metres of climbing.
Richard Cottam claimed fourth place overall and was first over40 man, with George Parr and Damian Kilpin also finishing inside the top ten – the latter taking the men’s over45 win.
Strong packing from Cottam, Parr and Kilpin secured first place in the men’s team competition, while there were further category victories for Ian Neville (over60 men), Jill Scrivens (over55 women) and Bernice Nixon (over70 women).
Hannah Shaw was third senior woman among more than 100 finishers.
Penistone’s Gareth Irvine travelled to Spain for the Valencia Marathon, tackling warm conditions that rose from 15 degrees at the start to 22 by mid-morning. He finished in 3-19-56.
Barnsley AC’s Joy Benson took more than 15 minutes off her marathon PB in 4-46-43.
At the December No Walk in the Park 5k at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, Ian Neville won the over55 category, while Dawn Broom and Jill Scrivens delivered a one–two in the over55 women’s group.
At the Run Heaton Park events, Barnsley AC’s Chris Ryder ran his second ever half marathon, 13 years after the first one. He finished in a PB of 1-47-26. His daughter Tillie-May Ryder finished 14th overall in the junior race in a time of 6-06.
Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood finished as first over55 man in a time of 18-41 at Halewood 5k in Merseyside.
York 5k hosted an extra race in December. Barnsley AC’s Wayne Singleton finished 13th overall and was first over45 man with a PB of 16-17.
Kenny Hunter was first over55 man in 19-42 while Chris McNicholas was second over60 man with 19-50. Ruby Sunman was second woman in 17-54.
